Retreating glaciers create Puget Sound and Grand Coulee as the Ice Age ends about 15, 000 years ago.
What: I am nominating the retreating glaciers creating Puget Sound and Grand Coulee Damn!
When: 15,000 years ago, right around the time of the Ice Age
Why: Without Puget Sound the Northwest would never be what it is today and many of the events that have happened, like its discovery, would never have occurred.
ah very interesting Kelly. Good idea for a post. Without Puget Sound we wouldn't even have this class! Ice Age, a great flick.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your nomination. A couple summers ago I went with my Geology class to Discovery Park where you can literally see a timeline including the receding glacier(s) in the layers of rock along the shoreline. It's crazy how a glacier literally carved out the Sound. (Obviously carrying a mismatched herd of prehistoric animals along with it.)
ReplyDeleteFrom glacial retreat to Port Blakely.
ReplyDeleteImagine, without the retreating glaciers, Washington would be just like...Oregon.
I don't even want to think about it.
Kelly, I like the humor in the images you choose, and agree with your nomination. Good set of comments too on your blog!
